Talent Watch! (Introducing Cookie Anguilar)

potrait shotToday I have the absolute pleasure of introducing Cookie Aguilar with her funky, contemporary and clean cut scrapboooking and card making style. Cookie works and teaches at Catchy Crafts in Hornsby where she delights everybody with her gentle sweet manner and HUGE talent.

Her scrapbooking journey began when she was a stay at home mum in the Philippines with her son Harvey (now 8). She joined, ‘Scrapping Mums’ and ‘PINOY Scrapbookers,’ and became friends with lots of crafty mums and great talents such as Iris Babao Uy. Cookie’s talents did not go unrecognised and soon she was on the Buzz and Bloom DT, Chatterbox DT and DT for various on-line shops. She became very active in the blogging world and frequently (and very successfully) entered on-line challenges appreciating the benefits of deadlines.

When Cookie’s family moved to Australia she started working at Catchy Crafts and once again it was the scrapbooking community that made her feel so welcome. Her new job brought a change of direction. Cookie, the queen of single page layouts, was now teaching 3-4 times each month and the demands were for double page spreads….bring on the era of double pages. Cookie quite literally extended her mastery of the 12 x 12” page to 12” x 24”.

Cookie’s job then called for her to become a card maker. Her clean, geometric style featuring: straight lines, layering, lots of cut paper, clustering and handmade embellishments continued but now on the card front. Cookie, who is very moderate and cautious with her purchases, owns lots of 6” x 6” paper pads and Copic markers as she rightly feels they are so perfect for card making. And wow! ….she uses them so well. Currently Cookie is making card kits every month for Catchy Crafts and they are amazing.

Cookie works at night in a nook in their living room so she can be close to her family. American Crafts, Echo Park, Little Yellow Bicycle and Websters clean and simple are some of her favourite papers. When scrapbooking she always starts with the photos and then very carefully chooses her papers. The rest you can see for yourself in her blog.

Have a great day! Jenny xx

How Many Copic Markers Do You Own?

Good morning friends.

Welcome to this month’s instalment of ‘How Many Do You Own?’  March is the month where we divulge how many Copic Markers we own…or very similar products such as Spectrum Noir.

Each month I type with guilty fingers admitting to you just how many (and I mean MANY) I own of the various crafting items. But wait for it… I own no copic markers… a big fat zero! Don’t get me wrong – I think Copics are amazing.  I love what people do with them but I made a decision not to enter into the world of Copics as I knew if I bought one, I would then just have to have them all (and there sure are lots and lots of Copics).  I also have very comprehensive sets of Tombow Markers, water colour pencils, Prisma pencils, Gelatos, Twinklings H2Os, water colour crayons (Neo Colour 2), Faber Castel markers and a splendid variety of paints.  I can, however, feel my resolve crumbling and I know that I will be filled with envy when I read of your collections.

Here are two cards created by the talented Cookie Aguilar using her Copic Markers.

In the comment section below let me know how many Copic Markers you own and what your favourite colours are.

Three random winners will be announced this time next month…so you have to be in it to win one of the wonderful packs shown below.

Kind regards, always,

Adding Texture Overlays to your Portrait Photos

Dearest bloggers and readers, did you know that adding texture overlays and using the different blend modes in Photoshop and Elements can give lots of dimension to your photos? Let me show you how!

Don’t forget to click on the photos if you want to see them larger.

I took this photo of my daughter Amy and her boyfriend with a white backdrop.  The photo is stark, modern and quite clean-cut.

I added a coloured and textured overlay to produce heritage style results.

Using the Brother ScanNCut To Accurately Place Images onto Patterned Paper

With so many divine patterned papers on the market we often want to cut out images making use of the underlying patterns or text.  The three dresses below were cut out using the Brother ScanNCut Electronic Cutter and its unique background scanning feature to strategically place the pattern.

Watch the video below to see how easily this is done.

Until next time! — Jenny

P.S. Brother have their own facebook page, if you want to contact them about the ScanNCut machine!
